Zellwood Station Veterans and the Zellwood Community Association have worked together to establish Zellwood Station as a "Purple Heart Community". This is a special recognition for veterans who have been awarded a Purple Heart. The Purple Heart is the oldest military decoration in use today. It is awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces who have been wounded or killed in combat with a declared enemy of the United States of America.

The ZSVA hosts several events each year including:

  • Annual Golf Outing for Physically Challenged / Disabled Veterans

  • Annual Chili Cook-Off

  • VITAS Healthcare

  • Annual Trash to Treasure Sale

 

The veterans have special guests speakers from the surrounding community with a Q&A after. Everyone is welcome.

Veterans Of Zellwood Station capitalizes on its unique strengths, collectively, fostering patriotism and loyalty to the United States of America through the support of local community activities which recognize the contributions and sacrifices of our Veterans with respect, fairness, and compassion.

Veterans Of Zellwood Station is a nonprofit organization, composed primarily of former members of the Armed Forces of the United States.The purpose of the Armed Forces Veterans of Zellwood Station and Auxiliary is to preserve and support the patriotic and historical interest of our country, our community, and our Veterans; to strengthen the common bonds of the men and women who have served and who are currently serving our military; to assist them and their families to enhance their quality of life; and to maintain true allegiance to the Constitution and Laws of the United States and defend her from all enemies, whomsoever.

OUR MISSION : "Honor all veterans for their service to our country and help them with their daily lives."

The Veterans of Zellwood Station recently purchased pole flags to represent all the armed forces of the military. The flags line the entrance and exit to Zellwood Station.

Becoming a Purple Heart Community pays tribute to U.S. service members who have been injured or killed in combat, and is also meant to demonstrate the community’s support for veteran-related legislative initiatives. The Purple Heart is the oldest American military decoration and was created as The Badge of Military Merit (made of purple cloth in the shape of a heart), on August 7, 1782 by General George Washington.
